VOKEY, Olive Glace Bay

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Olive Vokey (Caines), at home surrounded by her loving family, on December 13, 2020 at the age of 88. Born in Glace Bay on November 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Esther Caines. Mom worked at the Peoples Store for 20 years before she retired. In her retirement she loved spending her days in her flower garden and yard and of course her 3 o’clock happy hour. She always talked about summers she spent on Scaterie Island. She was very loving and would do anything for you, she took care of everyone. Her pride and joy were her five girls and she let everyone know it. She is survived by her five daughters, Diane (Sheldon) Briggs, Ontario; Debbie (Gary) Scott; Paula (Blaine) McKinnon; Sandra (Jimmy) Devison and Pamela (Darrell) Gouthro of Glace Bay. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren; Troy, Craig, Darryl, Kenny, Nicole, Scott, Dale, Linsey and Steven; also 13 great-grandchildren. She is survived by brother Jerry. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel, of 66 years; brothers, Billy, Les, John, Jimmy; sisters, Rhoda and Shirley. Also the loss of son, Jason, at birth. A special thank you to Dr. Ley for his care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, there will be no visitation or service as per family wishes. Burial to take place at a later date. Online condolences can be sent to www.pattenfuneral.com.

Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us everyday.

Unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed, still very dear.
