With sadness and heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of John A. MacNeil, age 74, on December 14, 2020 at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Born April 20, 1946 and raised in Glace Bay, the son of the late John R. and Mary (MacIntosh). At 15, John enlisted in the Armed Forces. In later years, he was passionate about being a representative for the Canadian Food and Allied Workers’ Union while employed at Sobeys, Sydney. He was also dedicated to his last job with New Dawn Enterprises, Sydney. John could turn his hand to any job and loved helping others. John was happiest at family get togethers; especially his New Year Gatherings serving his specialty “Corned Beef Dinner”. John is survived by his loving wife, Patsy (MacDougall); children, Wanda, Patty, John; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Anthony (Bea) (Barb), Gerard (Nina), Vince (Susan), Dan (Colleen), David (Linda) and many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-laws, Hughie MacDougall (Anne), David MacDougall (Michelle) and sister-in-law, Lugene Petite (Brian). Besides his parents, John was predeceased by sister, Kaye and sons, David and Cory. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of the 3rd floor of the Glace Bay General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Cremation and burial under the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
