‘It was a mixture of all things’

LOUISBOURG — This weekend’s show from the Foggy View Players, “A Nice Family Christmas,” has been cancelled.

Even though tickets had been sold and the show could have gone ahead, the theatre troupe decided Tuesday night that now wasn’t the best time to stage a show.

“It was a tough one,” says troupe spokesperson Brett Hanham. “It was a mixture of all things. We felt we had delivered on every performance that we had done and we wanted to keep that going — just to get this combination of factors we wouldn’t have been able to give that 100 per cent great experience that we love to give.”

Hanham says the Foggy View Players may be a volunteer community theatre group but they take a lot of pride in what they do and they didn’t want anything, including the COVID-19 virus, to affect their shows.

“With the experience that we put on, we take pride in it and we didn’t want anyone to be there that was nervous or uncomfortable and we didn’t want anyone on stage who was nervous or uncomfortable either.”

Those who bought tickets to the Dec. 18, 19 and 20 shows will be contacted and refunded.

It’s their second COVID-related cancellation this year, with their spring show also being cancelled. Despite that, Hanham is feeling confident about next year.

“2020 has been a rough year for everyone,” he said. “This was just another kick from it. We’ll be planning in January and February as things settle down that we will be able to get back and we’ll start working on a show for May.”
