BERNARD, George Hamilton

We the family of George Hamilton Bernard, 49 of Wagmatcook First Nation N.S., regret to announce his sudden passing on December 12, 2020 at home. Born in Baddeck on September 29, 1971, he was the first born of Phillip James Bernard Sr. (Karen) and Florence Marion Googoo (Wayne). George was a great man with a big heart and had a smile so contagious you just couldn’t help but return it. His family was his world and he would of done anything for them all no matter how big or small it was. He kept himself busy in his trades and school and achieved alot. George received his air brakes in heavy equipment, he was a carpenter an electricia­n. Got his scaffoldin­g certificat­e, he was also a Certified Energy Efficient Residentia­l Renovator. He did multiple trainings in University of Texas in Austin for Pipefittin­g & Steam fitting. George was also a proud Lobster Fisherman, a deck hand for years and was so proud to finally receive his Captain’s License. He was a hockey player in his younger days and was part of the “Old timers” baseball team in Wagmatcook. Besides his parents he is survived by his one and only son, whom he was very proud of, Elliott Morgan Paul; sisters, Cynthia Bernard (Terry), Charlene Bernard-Lafford (Mike); brothers, Phillip Jr, Vincent Conrad (Melissa), Curtis, Peter Larry and Roderick. He is also survived by his godmother, Kathleen Pierro, Wagmatcook; godchildre­n, Kristen Googoo, Joseph Bernard, Robertjij Isadore, Elvis Peck and Abby Rose Bernard; as well as his aunts and uncles, Eunice Peck, Tina Googoo (Kenny), Alexandria Bernard, Vincent Sr., Peter Daniel (Karen), Richard, Charlie all of Wagmatcook; Judy Bernard ( Joe) of Waygobagh, Carol Johnson of Millbrook and Freda Kabatay of Membertou. Along with many nieces, nephews, grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws (best buddy Dre). He is predecease­d by his grandparen­ts, Peter P. Googoo & Helen (Pierro), Frank Larry Bernard & Mary Susan (Isadore); godfather, Francis Alexander (Chisholm) Pierro; a niece and many uncles, aunts and cousins. George will be sadly missed by many especially by his son, parents, siblings along with his nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation­s will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2020, starting at 7 p.m. at the Elders Center, Fishery Rd., Wagmatcook. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Mary Queen of the World Church, Wagmatcook with Fr. Vargheese officiatin­g.
