Philip Floyd, age 53, of Eskasoni First Nation passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, January 3. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Veronica ‘Flo’ (Phillips) Young and the Late William Frederick Young. Philip was a snow crab fisherman by trade for the past 20 years for Crane Cove Seafoods. He most recently loved his time on the ocean on board the vessel, “Dr. Albert and Dr. Murdena Marshall.” He enjoyed fishing, blueberry harvesting, sudoku puzzles, watching the news and road trips especially to Malagawatc­h and Maine, USA. Philip was a loving common-law partner, son, father, grandfathe­r, brother, uncle and godfather. Besides his mother, he is survived by his common-law wife, Tena Joe; children, Philip (PJ) Toney, Colton Toney (Janelle), Rebecca Toney, all of Eskasoni, Stella Joe and Holly Joe, living at home and grandchild­ren, Jazlynn & Kailey. Also surviving are siblings, Frances Young, Herman Young, Barbara Joe (Eddie), James Young (Kelly), Mary Liz Francis, Vivian Paul (Lindsay), Nelson Inkin Young (Sheraine), Frederica Francis (Barry), John Leonard (Juanita), all of Eskasoni and Tuma Young (Nick) of Sydney; aunt, Mary Ellen Googoo of Membertou; numerous nieces and nephews; godparents, Stevie John Sylliboy and Mary Ann Stevens, and godchildre­n, Cory Young, Amy Young, Kelvin Cabot Jr. & Robert Joe. Besides his father, Philip is predecease­d by his siblings, Thomas Daniel Young, Victor ‘Biggy’ Young and David Eric Young; brothers-in-law, Edgar Francis, Joe T. Joe and Bobby Denny Sr. Due to current COVID restrictio­ns there is no community visitation. A family Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish (100 seat capacity limit) with Father Antolin Asor officiatin­g.
