-

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, Nani, great-Nani, sister, aunt and friend on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in the QE11 Halifax Infirmary. Born in Point Cross, she was the eldest daughter of the late Philip and Katie Mae (Hache) Doucet. Eileen left Point Cross at the age of 17 to begin work with the Royal Bank in Sydney. She worked in several branches spending many years at the Whitney Pier Branch. She retired from the Royal Bank. Through school, moving to Sydney and the Bank, she made many life long friends. Over the years, Eileen had many health issues but she was grateful for the love and support of her children and cherished the years she spent with her daughter and grandsons, Daniel and David, after moving from Sydney to Fall River in 1996 when Daniel was born. She was a wealth of information for her family, always remembering names and dates for birthdays, anniversaries and any occasion. She was an avid online Scrabble player and enjoyed the FB posts of family and her daughter’s friends. Eileen is survived by son, Michael G. (Margaret Vatcher), Sydney; daughter, Francine (Phil MacKenzie), Fall River. She loved her five grandchildren, Daniel and David (Julia Leslie) MacKenzie, Fall River, Michael A, Cusack, Sydney, Allison (Desmond) Johnson, Eskasoni, and Natasha (Evan) MacLeod, Alberta, along with her five great-grandchildren, Michael, Dallas, Maverick, Dathen, and Darwin. Eileen was close to her siblings, brothers, Willie Dave (Rose Mary) Doucet, Sydney and Roland (Germaine) Doucet, Point Cross, along with sisters, Casilda AuCoin, Cheticamp, Marie Emma Arsenault, Waltham, Massachusetts, and Goretti (Alphonse) Bourgeois, Point Cross. Eileen is also survived by sisters-in-law, Beverley (Charlie) MacLean, Cambridge, Ontario, and Julie Cusack, Fall River, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins who she spent wonderful times with over the years. She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Cusack; nephew, Donnie Doucet; brothers-in-law, Ervin AuCoin, David Arsenault, Bill and Darrell Cusack; sister-in-law, Elaine. The family would like to thank the team of health care workers in the ER and 3 IMCU of the Halifax Infirmary, especially Pam, who provided her cellphone to play Mom’s favorite song, “Why Me Lord” by Kris Kristofferson, a memory her daughter will cherish. Special thanks to Dr. David MacNeil for his care and kindness through the years and thank you to the workers of Northwood Homecare, initially from the Musquodoboit region and then from Bedford/Sackville. Prior to the pandemic, Eileen enjoyed chatting with the drivers who delivered Meals on Wheels to her door. She was a member of St. Andre Bessette Parish (St. Rose of Lima) in Fall River. Donations may be made to the Mental Health Foundation of N.S. or a charity of your Choice. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in Cheticamp at a later date. Burial with her parents in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd. Condolences may be sent to: www.cheticampfuneralservices.ca.
