With heartfelt sadness, we the family announce the passing of George Henry Bishop, age 80, beloved husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother, uncle and friend on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in English Harbour West, Newfoundla­nd on April 4, 1940, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Penny) Bishop. George was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic for thirty years until his retirement. He enjoyed salmon and ice fishing and was a well- known accordion player. George was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Jenkins) Bishop; three sons, George (Nicole), Dartmouth, Paul (Norma), Millville, Benny (Vicki), Saint John; three grandsons, Colin, Graham and Brandon; brother-in-law, Victor (Shirley) Jenkins; sister-in-law, Joan (Wayne) Dwyer; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his feline companion, Babe. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his beloved daughter, Nancy in 1970; sisters, Harriet (Jake), Mary (Johnny), Marjorie, Hazel (Billy) and brother, Gordon (Nell) Penny. The family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Wawer, Dr. Michel McKeough, the nurses of 4 West at the Northside General Hospital and Rev. Jackie Warren for the care and compassion shown to George and the family. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
