O’neill leads Glace Bay past Memorial

NORTH SYDNEY — Dylan O’neill had a four-point game to lead the Glace Bay Panthers to an 8-1 victory over the Memorial Marauders in Cape Breton High School Hockey League playoff action at the Emera Centre Northside on Thursday.

O’neill’s performanc­e included a hat trick, which he completed in the second period.

Connor Macintyre scored twice while Liam Peterson, Logan Snow and Ty Clarke also scored goals for the Panthers (2-0-0-0).

Ian Jenkins had the lone goal for the Marauders (1-1-0-0).

Glace Bay’s Darian Macinnis made 17 saves. Memorial’s Andrew Marsh allowed seven goals on 20 shots, before being replaced by Aidan Penny, who stopped two of three shots in his 15 minutes of relief. Marsh was tagged with the loss.

Cape Breton High School Hockey League double round-robin playoffs continued on Friday with the Riverview Ravens hosting the Sydney Academy Wildcats. The result was not available at press time, however, a game recap will be available at capebreton­post.com.

With deep sadness, we, the family of Francis Llewellyn “Frank” Cathcart, regret to announce his passing on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born November 14, 1938, in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Llewellyn and Dolena (Macleod) Cathcart. In the 1960’s, he served overseas with the military and was presently employed at the Canadian Coast Guard College, with Commission­aire’s Nova Scotia as Site Manager. Frank was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, Louisbourg, the Cape Breton Shriners, Donkin Legion and AA. An avid hockey fan, he enjoyed cheering on the Boston Bruins. Frank is survived by his loving spouse, Edith King; stepdaught­ers, Treena (Jimmy) Jacobs, Sydney and Cheryl (Michael) Stewart, Chezzetcoo­k; stepson, Lenn (MC) Herritt, Kentville; special grandson, Kalan, who was his pride and joy and with whom he shared a special bond; grandchild­ren, Jostenn, Brielle, Nigel, Andrew, Sahsha and Christophe­r; greatgrand­daughter, Callie; sisters, Isabelle (Ron) Booth, Portland, ME and Annie May Mackay, Halifax; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Frank was predecease­d by his brothers, Freddie and Sandy. A private family service will take place. Visitation, open to the public, will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 8 from 2-4 p.m. Interment will take place in Harbourvie­w Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Church, Louisbourg, the Feral Cats Society or the Shriners.
