HUTCHINSON, James (Jimmy) Gordon Halifax, NS

-

James Hutchinson passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the age of 71. After a few months of declining health, Jimmy died peacefully with his beloved daughter by his side. Jimmy was born on May 5, 1949 in Sydney, NS. Jimmy was known and adored by many members of Westmount community where he lived for over 30 years and helped the love of his life, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hutchinson (Leadley), look after the neighborhood children. He was proud to be able to say he worked in the insurance business right up until the day he became sick. Jimmy has remained close with all of his former business colleagues, The Prudential Family. He will always have a special place in his heart for Martha Mizzi, a close companion with whom he spent the last 8 years. Over the course of his life, Jimmy had many nicknames (i.e. Gramps, Diamond Jim, Medical Miracle, One of a Kind, and The Barber), however he was more commonly known as “Hutch” or “Hutchie”. While he lived most of his life in Halifax, he spent his summers at Big Beach and considered himself a Cape Bretoner at heart. Cape Breton, or as Jim would say “God’s Country”, was his happy place where everything was “Golden”. He loved the fresh air, visits with James Macneil, sunsets and hilltop view of Baddeck, from his cottage where he enjoyed hosting many family and friends. When not in Cape Breton, Jimmy could be found playing snooker, attending mass at Saint Agnes Church, eating breakfast at Kempster’s (the office) or enjoying a steak at The Keg. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Francis (Frankie) Kehoe and Isabel Kehoe (Burke); wife, Elizabeth and sister-inlaw, Crystal. Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Guy (Nathan Guy); sister, Janice Stuthard (Al Stuthard), sister-inlaw, Joanne Vogt (Brian Mackenzie); nieces, Jacqueline, Suzanne and Shelley and grandchildren, Jacob, Victoria (Tori), Isabel Elizabeth and Ethan James. Jimmy’s daughter and grandchildren were his greatest gifts and he loved them unconditionally. In terms of the end of one’s life, Jimmy had a euphemized outlook and he referred to it as “becoming a butterfly”. While Jimmy will be greatly missed, he has earned his wings and his family and friends will take pleasure in remembering him each time they see one of these beauties fly their way. Funeral service will be held at Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church. Due to Covid 19 restrictions the service will be by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society. A very special thank you goes out to Dr. Rayson, Mallory and the staff of 5A at the Victoria General hospital, whose bedside manner, professionalism and competency was outstanding and deeply appreciated.
