MUISE, Alice Ethel

-

New Waterford. It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Alice Ethel Muise, announce her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on May 5, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. After 70 years together, Mom simply could not live without her “Joey”. Their time together here on earth and in heaven is a true testament of their love story; and we find great comfort knowing they are together once again. Alice was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born in New Waterford on September 27, 1926, to the late Francis and Christine (Roach) Poirier. She was the last surviving member of the Poirier family; a family that was filled with love, hard work, jokes, French songs, and beautiful music. Alice worked at Cribs, Stanley Grants, and Oliver’s stores in New Waterford. Alice was first hired at Grants because of her French last name to help with the number of Acadians moving to the area for work in the coal mines. It was then she fell in love and married one of those Acadian men, and so their story began. She and Joe built a beautiful life full of love and laughter with their two daughters. They loved to visit Chéticamp with their family, making more wonderful memories. Always a lady of style, she would never be seen without her painted nails, perfect hair, and unique jewelry. She liked to stay close to home and take care of her family. She was a strong Catholic, a faithful member of Saint Leonard (Mount Carmel) Parish, and Mount Carmel Senior Choir. She was a skilled baker and cook. Acadian foods, especially meat pies and fricôts, were her specialty, and her homemade bread was like no other. She loved sharing her food with others, especially at Christmas when she would give meat pies as gifts. Alice was the life of the party and was always singing, step dancing, telling jokes, and playing pranks. She also enjoyed line dancing with her many friends. She enjoyed roller skating in her younger days, having parties with her sisters and brothers, and simply spending time with friends, especially times spent with Joe and Theresa Cormier and Rosie and Alex Dan Chiasson. Alice is survived by her children, Annette Lamey (Paul), New Victoria, Elaine MacLeod (Steve), New Waterford; grandchildren, Katie (Joel), Sydney, and Stephen (Deborah), Toronto; great-granddaughter, Sophie, who was her little angel; sister-in-law, Yvonne Poirier and brother-inlaw, Gordon Kyle. Alice also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and her cherished godchildren, Joan Chaisson-MacDonald, Rose Marie Phinney, and Michelle Poirier Myers. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years, Joe; sisters, Janet Kyle, Anna Burke, Julia Boudreau, Effie MacEachern, Hilda MacKinnon; stepsisters, Katie Gallant, May MacIntyre, Elizabeth Poirier, Lucie Pottie; brothers, Eddie, Wilfred, Edger, Ernest, and stepbrother, William. Special thanks to Dr. Abboud and Dr. MacInnis; the nurses in 4C and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital; and Dr. Azer and his secretary, Trish. Cremation has taken place and a joint service for Alice and Joe will be held at a later date. Donations in Alice’s memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice. “A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take”. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902862-7500. To send online condolences, go to: www.mclellanfuneralhome.com.
