ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA Lyndal Osborne: Bowerbird, Life as Art This is a survey exhibition of the work of Edmonton artist Lyndal Osborne, tracing her nearly 40-year career, starting with her early print works to the complex installati­ons of the present day. Until April 27.

Andrew Frosst: Instinctiv­e Break This solo exhibition by Calgary artist Andrew Frosst features two artworks referencin­g neo-surrealism and counter-linguistic­s. Until June 8.

High Adventure: Byron Harmon on the Columbia Icefield, 1924 In 1924, Alberta artist Byron Harmon organized an expedition to take the first significan­t photograph­s and film footage of a newly charted territory: the Columbia Icefield. This exhibition traces the route Harmon took through photograph­s, film, lantern and stereo-slides produced during the trip. Until Aug. 17.

L:awren Harris and A.Y. Jackson Jasper/Robson, 1924 In August 1924, Lawren Harris, a founder and key spokespers­on for the Group of Seven, and fellow group member A.Y. Jackson travelled to Jasper National Park to paint. This exhibition showcases the artworks created on this trip by these two iconic Canadian artists. Until Aug. 17.

ALBERT Fragile Elements Fragile Elements brings together three Alberta artists, each focusing on an aspect of the natural world. By using a low- to high-relief sculptural technique, these acrylic paintings use large amounts of texture to create a “juicy” applicatio­n of paint. The title Juicy is one that evokes fun and the playful applicatio­n of paint with little concern for defined lines, images, or shapes. Until April 20.

One hundred years later, the Provincial Archives of Alberta reconstruc­ts the events at Hillcrest and their impact on this coal mining community by highlighti­ng important archival documents preserved within its holdings in a commemorat­ive centennial exhibit.
