La Ronde Restaurant at Chateau Lacombe

- KATHLEEN RENNE

A 360-degree tour of Edmonton in only 88 minutes. That’s what La Ronde - Edmonton’s only revolving restaurant, located on the 24th floor of downtown’s Chateau Lacombe Hotel – provides its guests.

“La Ronde is the location of many memorable moments,” says Sherry Parker, Chateau Lacombe’s director of sales and marketing, adding that La Ronde is a popular spot for life’s milestone events such as engagements, birthdays and anniversaries.

The restaurant opened in 1967 and is Edmonton’s longest-serving, fine-dining establishment, particularly recognized for its prime rib and Chateaubriand.

La Ronde is also recognized for its Sunday brunch.

“Sunday brunch is so well received because it’s generational. People remember going with their grandmother. As they grow up, they want to re-create those same memories for their children,” Parker explains.

Nearly two years ago, La Ronde started another initiative that’s bound to enter tradition territory: Tieless Tuesday.

Every Tuesday evening, patrons can come to La Ronde to relax, hang a tie on the tree, listen to live jazz music and enjoy half-price bottles of wine.

When it comes to wines, Parker points out that La Ronde was one of the early adopters of Okanagan wines and that it still o ers an extensive Canadian-wine selection.

“There’s no better way to view Edmonton’s beautiful river valley,” says Parker, adding that a trip to La Ronde also o ers people the chance to witness Edmonton’s evolving urban landscape, with the downtown Ice District changing daily.
