Beauty and the Beast
It must be nearly summer if this adventure-drama series is returning. But the Season 4 premiere, Monsieur et Madame Bete, means the beginning of the end for Catherine and Vincent (Kristin Kreuk, Jay Ryan) since it’s the show’s final round. They’re married, but that doesn’t mean their troubles have lessened, especially now that a bounty has been posted for beasts. Translation: Watch out, Vincent. (Showcase)
NAKED AND AFRAID
The new episode, Melt Down Under, pairs a Texas military veteran and a Swedish adventure guide to take on windstorms, freezing temperatures and their own interpersonal cultural friction in the hostile environment of Australia’s Outback, where almost nothing can survive unassisted. After a prolonged period of sleeplessness, ill tempers between the two skyrocket to levels unprecedented in the history of this series. (Discovery)
UNDERCOVER BOSS
The unscripted series’ seventh season concludes with AdvantaClean, not only the episode title but also the name of a firm that guarantees the best environment for a home. Cleanliness, safety and efficiency are the company’s aims for a residence, and founder and CEO Jeff Dudan goes incognito to assess whether his employees are meeting that goal. He has to get in and do some of the tough stuff while posing as a co-worker to fulfil his mission. (CBS)
KIDS BBQ CHAMPIONSHIP
Backyard barbecuing has long been considered the fiefdom of the suburban dad by many, but this new culinary competition series indicates that a new generation of innovative grillers is moving in and making its mark. Hosts Camila Alves and Eddie Jackson welcome eight kids, all under 13, who vie for a US$20,000 cash prize. The series premiere, Meat the Chefs, finds guest chef Tim Love helping to evaluate the plates that are served up. (Food Network)
AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR
Resetting the stage for the show’s season premiere on Wednesday, this first all-stars edition sees some previous competitors return to serve on five-person teams chosen by series hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja Biamila. For what’s meant to be a bigger competition, the obstacles also are bigger — including a giant peg board, a salmon ladder that extends 12 metres, the Flying Shelf Grab, the Jump Hang and the Mega Wall. (NBC, CTV)
MASTERCHEF CANADA
As the culinary competition series returns from a two-week hiatus, the remaining five chefs face a mystery box challenge inspired by the world-class cuisine of judge Michael Bonancini. They then are tasked with creating both sweet and savoury dishes inspired by classic cocktails, in the new episode Cooking with Cocktails. Alvin Leung and Claudio Aprile are also on deck as judges for the homegrown reality show. (CTV)
THE CARMICHAEL SHOW
When The Carmichael Show debuted its first batch of episodes last August, critics lauded it as an updated take on the family sitcom, likening it to the much-loved 1970s Norman Lear series All in the Family. Tonight, Season 2 wraps up with a timely episode, dubbed President Trump. In it, Joe (David Alan Grier) meets Trump and decides he wants to vote for him, much to the dismay of Maxine (Amber Stevens West). Also, Jerrod (Jerrod Carmichael, the show’s creator) attends a rally for the Republican presidential nominee with Joe.
