2016 MTV Video Music Awards
New York’s celebrated performance venue Madison Square Garden is the setting for this year’s awards telecast. The field of nominees is dominated by Beyonce, who earned 11 nods for her bestselling and critically acclaimed visual album Lemonade. THE STRAIN
New York Strong, the Season 3 premiere of this horror drama, finds former CDC epidemiologist Eph Goodweather (Corey Stoll) hitting the bottle heavily as he tries to process several recent devastating setbacks, including the suicide of Nora (Mia Maestro) and the abduction of his son, Zack (Max Charles). Worse, the strigoi appear to be evolving, rendering his efforts to counter them less effective. (FX Canada)
THE GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE
A new season launches with a twist as host Tyler Florence welcomes six teams, all made up of families, in the aptly named episode A Family Affair. The race opens with a funnel-cake-eating contest at a theme park in Los Angeles. In the first challenge, the teams create their signature menu item, then take part in an all-out bidding war for a prime selling spot on the grounds of the theme park. (Food Network)
WE DAY
Martin Sheen, Charlize Theron, Joe Jonas, Demi Lovato, Seth Rogen, Zooey Deschanel, Rico Rodriguez and the Muppets are among the celebrities participating in this annual celebration of young people. The special, which airs commercial free, is built around an event that took place last April at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., during which Sheen and his fellow stars exhorted their mostly young audience to go out and find ways to spread kindness throughout the world, leading to a global change of attitude. FEAR THE WALKING DEAD
Madison, Strand (Kim Dickens, Colman Domingo) and the others among the remnants of their party have little recourse but to keep moving forward after the compound falls, in the new episode Los Muertos.
