This celebratio­n of footloose young hopefuls who just gotta dance celebrates its milestone 250th episode with the new two-hour presentati­on The Next Generation: Top 5 Perform and Eliminatio­n. After the five best finalists perform for judges Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo and Maddie Ziegler, the names of the quartet who have made it one step closer to victory will be announced. Wanting to be popular with Josh’s (Vincent Rodriguez III) friends, Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) rents a bus to take them on a beach excursion in a new episode logically titled I’m Going to the Beach With Josh and His Friends! The trip yields many surprises, including some that Rebecca didn’t intend to reveal to the others. Veteran choreograp­her Kenny Ortega directed the tale. Santino Fontana, Donna Lynne Champlin and Pete Gardner also star. (Global)

THE MAKING OF THE MOB: CHICAGO

It is the season finale for this edition of the series focusing on the Chicago mafia, specifical­ly the rise of Al Capone, whose ruthless tactics and over-the-top lifestyle were legendary. In the finale Last Man Standing, Capone soldier Joe Accardo and Sam Giancana, who was the titular head of the Chicago Outfit from 1957-66, have a falling out. While Giancana spent a year in jail and was murdered not too long after he was deported back to the U.S. from Mexico, Accardo died of natural causes at the age of 86. (AMC)

The popular science show begins its 22nd season with an all-new theme week — Boldly Go. During the week, viewers will get a frontrow seat at the world’s first concert inside a volcano, go deep in Silfra, Iceland — the only place in the world where divers can swim between two continenta­l plates — and watch a rocket launch from a sailing platform in the Baltic Sea. The series also celebrates Star Trek’s 50th anniversar­y with interviews of the team who brought the series to life. (Discovery)
