LRT route not worth loss of trees

-

When I got home on Sept. 20, I discovered a notification from the City of Edmonton related to the Valley Line LRT project. It said that tree removal would take place over the next two weeks on 83 Street from Argyll Road all the way to 92 Avenue, or roughly 30 blocks. According to the notification, the work was to start “on or around” Sept. 19.

Note when I said I received the notification — one day after the work was supposed to start.

I have not supported this LRT for a number of reasons, including the fact that the city can’t even get the Metro Line to work properly. It is ill-conceived and is having a negative impact on our environment. The trees that are to be removed are well established, healthy, add to property values, make the area look better and have a positive impact on the environment.

You cannot say the same about the LRT. It may be too late to save these trees but I implore other residents: don’t let the LRT into your area. It is destructive not constructive. Joanne Specken, Edmonton
