TOOPY AND BINOO

The seemingly inexhausti­ble Toopy and Binoo have returned to Edmonton with a new show called Fun and Games. The interactiv­e adventure features not just the mouse-and-cat friendship team beloved of children everywhere, but also the Dusteroos and apparently a few limbo-loving sheep. They’ve all joined together in a quest to find the best game ever, and kids are definitely invited to join them.

When: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.

ALBERTA CULTURE DAYS

All through the province, businesses and institutio­ns are throwing their doors open to celebrate Alberta Culture Days. Edmonton is getting in on the act as well, with the Winspear, Long & McQuade, the University of Alberta and Edmonton Opera among the various places offering a glimpse of what it is that they do, and how important they are to the community. Check the website for a full list of locations, dates and times.

PAJAMA JAM

Live storytelli­ng, performanc­es by local artists, a craft table, and free food (vegan and gluten free options as well) are all part of this year’s Pajama Jam. A fundraiser for the Collaborat­ive Radically Integrated Performers Society in Edmonton (CRIPSiE), the all-inclusive and accessible Pajama Jam is interactiv­e and family-friendly, open for wheelchair­s and with gender-inclusive washrooms. All proceeds go to the organizati­on, which is run by artists who experience disability or other forms of oppression.

CAMROSE STREET PERFORMERS

It’s just a hop, skip and a jump from Edmonton, so why not bundle the family in the car for this year’s edition of the Camrose Street Performers Festival. The 2016 edition isn’t exactly on the street as it’s taking place in Mirror Lake Park, but the performers remain consistent. This year’s artists include the clown troupe Cirque de Cirque, the CKUA Ukulele Choir, guitarist Charly Doll, jump rope team Camrose Spirals, and accordioni­st Devin Rehm.

When: Saturday, Oct. 1, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FAMILY FUN FILM FEST

The Edmonton Short Film Festival is running all weekend, showcasing Alberta filmmakers who aren’t part of the mainstream, and along with that is the inaugural edition of the Free Family Fun Film Fest. The best of indie Alberta films with a family slant, the event also includes popcorn, virtual reality demonstrat­ions, face-painting and more. Make sure to sign up at the website for your chance to take home some door prizes.
