Bus driver faces charges

- CLARE CLANCY

Police have charged a 42-year-old bus driver in connection with the death of a pedestrian earlier this month.

Mary Lynch, 83, died Oct. 4 when she was hit by an Edmonton Transit bus as she made her way across a marked crossing on 87 Avenue and 169 Street.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.

Driver Kellie Rowe is charged with one count of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

Police said alcohol and speed weren’t factors in the collision.

Lynch’s death was the city ’s 19th traffic fatality of 2016.
