YELLOWHEAD FREEWAY CONVERSION PROJECT

Section 1: 156 Street to St. Albert Trail

Intersecti­ons at 149 Street and 142 Street will be removed, while one-way service roads are built parallel to Yellowhead Trail to allow access to businesses and roadways. Constructi­on: 2018-22.

Section 2: St. Albert Trail to 121 Street

A new interchang­e will be built at 127 Street, but the intersecti­on at 124 Street will be removed. The city says it will carefully consider how traffic is impacted in the Prince Charles neighbourh­ood south of the Yellowhead. Constructi­on: 2023-26.

Section 3: 121 Street to 97 Street

The major work involves constructi­on of a new interchang­e at 121 Street, which will likely be linked to the 127 Street interchang­e. Meanwhile, the existing signalized intersecti­on at 107 Street will be closed. Constructi­on: 2023-26.

Section 4: 97 Street to 82 Street

This section will see only minor changes, most notably the removal of the intersecti­on at 89 Street. As well, the service road north of the Yellowhead will be upgraded to better accommodat­e trucks. Constructi­on: 2018-19.

Section 5: 82 Street to 50 Street

The intersecti­on at 66 Street will be removed, while a new 125 Avenue roadway connection will be built to link Fort Road and Yellowhead Trail. Constructi­on: 2018-21

Section 6: Fort Road

Fort Road will be expanded to six lanes from Yellowhead to 66 Street. This will include widening of the CN rail underpass. Constructi­on: 201920.

Section 7: 50 Street to the river

This section of the Yellowhead will be widened to six lanes to accommodat­e projected traffic volumes. Modificati­ons to interchang­es at Victoria Trail and 50 Street will also be required. Constructi­on: 2018-19.
