Fort Saskatchewan councillor drops lawsuit

- PAIGE PARSONS

A Fort Saskatchewan city councillor has discontinued his lawsuit alleging wrongful termination from his employment with Alberta Education.

Sheldon Bossert filed a statement of claim with Court of Queen’s Bench in Edmonton on Jan. 16, arguing he should be paid $336,074 in damages after being wrongfully fired from his position with the province.

Bossert had been in charge of overseeing matters related to private schools in Alberta.

In the documents filed in court, Bossert alleged he was called in for meetings with ministry staff relating to his expense claims and absences he had taken.

He said he was put on suspension before being fired.

Bossert said he could provide explanations for each of the allegations against him, but that the government gave him no opportunity to do so.

Bossert’s claim was discontinued in late January. None of the allegations put forward in the claim were proven in court.

Bossert has been a Fort Saskatchewan city councillor since October 2013.
