Check it out — Rihanna will check in to Bates Motel for its fifth season, debuting tonight. The singer plays Marion Crane, a real estate secretary murdered by hotel owner Norman Bates.
Janet Leigh embodied the character in the 1960 film Psycho.
This is the final season of the Vancouver-filmed show, which stars Freddie Highmore as Norman. Jumping forward almost two years from the end of Season 4, the action in the prequel TV series is catching up with the events of the film, with Norman’s mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) dying and her son becoming a hallucinatory, cross-dressing murderer. Farmiga will still appear onscreen, though, as a figment of Norman’s imagination.
Also back is Nestor Carbonell as Alex Romero, currently in jail and itching to avenge Norma’s murder.
“He has a great arc,” showrunner Kerry Ehrin told Yahoo TV. “Last season, we had the toughest guy in the world take his shell off and then get sucker punched when he lost Norma. He’s going to have a very extreme reaction to this, and what he feels he needs to do about it.”
Other new faces this season include Isabelle McNally and Austin Nichols as a married couple, and Brooke Smith as Sheriff Jane Greene. Kenny Johnson and Ryan Hurst will revive their roles as Caleb Calhoun and Chick Hogan.
DEGRASSI STARS HIT TORONTO COMICON
Calling all ComiCon chameleons! The annual Toronto event has announced a special treat for those who turn to mush around their favourite TV shows.
Some of the original stars of Degrassi High will reunite for the first time in 20 years, with Pat Mastroianni (Joey), Stacie Mistysyn (Caitlin), Stefan Brogren (Snake), Kirsten Bourne (Tessa) and Dan Woods (Mr. Raditch) all on hand to greet fans.
Sadly missing, though, are other memorable cast members like Anais Granofsky (Lucy), Dayo Ade (BLT) and Angela and Maureen Deiseach (twins Erica and Heather). And I ask you, where would Degrassi be without Amanda Stepto as Spike? Two hairspray cans short of a hairdo, that’s where.
Also set to appear are Robert Picardo of Star Trek: Voyager, Ray Park of The Phantom Menance, Laurie Holden of The Walking Dead, Kevin Sussman of The Big Bang Theory, Michaela Conlin and T.J. Thyne of Bones, Brett Dalton of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and David Mazouz and Sean Pertwee of Gotham.
Wrestlers Bret (The Hitman) Hart and Mick Foley will hit the floor as well.
It will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from March 17 to 19.
