Choose trustees carefully next October
As supporters of Catholic education, we have an expectation elected trustees will fulfil their responsibilities in a manner that exemplifies the values of respect, integrity, civility and excellence we all hold dear. We expect that behaviour will honour our sacred trust, supporting the development and illumination of the talents of our children and youth. We expect them to lead by example.
On what was a good-news day for Edmonton Catholic Schools with the establishment of a student senate and government approval of much-needed funding for facility revitalization and construction, Tuesday’s board meeting once again descended into acrimony.
One of the trustees even chose to use her position of authority to make a sarcastic remark to an ECS staff member. She has since indicated her regret.
It is too late to hope the trustees at the centre of this dysfunction will get their act together through the remainder of this term.
Therefore, it is incumbent on supporters of ECS to be informed, to be engaged and to vote this October, choosing responsible trustees who consistently exemplify their values. Terry Harris, Edmonton
