Mindy’s mission

- MELISSA HANK

Oh, Mindy. Well, you came and you gave without taking. But Hulu’s sending you away … oh, Mindy.

The Mindy Project, Mindy Kaling’s sparkling take on the rom-com genre, will fade to black after its sixth season streams on the U.S. video-on-demand service. The show wrapped up Season 5 last week on Hulu, with its next run of episodes set for this fall. In Canada, the show airs on City.

“It’s true! Our 6th season will be our last but it’ll be lit AF,” Kaling tweeted after the news broke. “Save your sour straws, bear claws & chicken wings for Sept.”

Kaling is the creator, star, writer and executive producer of The Mindy Project, which closed out its last new episode with her OB/GYN character Mindy Lahiri deciding to marry her boyfriend Ben (Bryan Greenberg).

The Mindy Project debuted during the 2012-13 season on Fox, but was cancelled after three seasons; Hulu rescued it in 2015. In honour of its heroine — that self-absorbed, pop cultureobsessed unicorn that she is — here’s a sampling of her best quotes on the series.

On relationships:

“I want you to love me in the way that I can show on Instagram.”

“My body is very attracted to your body but when you speak, my brain gets angry.”

“If you’re a serial killer,

I’m not interested. If you’re a serial killer who only murders serial killers, I’m very interested.”

“Maybe I won’t get married, ya know? Maybe I’ll do one of those Eat, Pray, Love things. I don’t want to pray, forget it. I’ll just die alone.”

“Danny, if we’re still single in five years, and we haven’t found anybody, can we make a pact … that we’ll kill each other?”

On self esteem:

“It’s so weird, being my own role model.”

“I am not overweight. I fluctuate between chubby and curvy.”

“I am a hot, smart woman, with an ass that doesn’t quit.”

On pop culture:

“My TV is broken and I cannot be alone with my thoughts.”

“To show my gratitude for this kindness, we can choose any city of the Real Housewives to watch.”

“I fell asleep watching Amelie and when I woke up, I had spilled so much red wine on me that I thought I’d been shot.”

THE SON

AMC’s western drama The Son debuts tonight, with Pierce Brosnan — yes, that Pierce Brosnan — starring as Texas native Eli McCullough, who over time becomes the head of a ranching-and-oil dynasty as well as a calculating killer. Set in 1915, The Son is a 10-part miniseries and is based on Philipp Meyer’s like-named 2013 bestseller.
