Hockey scores top spot
Born out of tragedy, Ariana Grande’s benefit concert One Love Manchester united millions after the bombing at her Manchester Arena concert on May 22. So many people, in fact, that it aired in 56 countries and ranks as the most-watched TV event of the year in the U.K. so far.
It brought in an average of 10.9 million viewers there, and 897,000 in Canada. Unsurprisingly, though, the Stanley Cup Finals topped the ratings overall in our fair land. The premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s World of Dance ranked third.
“With everything happening in our world, there’s a lot going on that’s serious and intense and depressing at times, and the world needs some entertainment right now,” World of Dance host Jenna Dewan Tatum told Variety.
“We want some joy and we want to feel good before we go to bed.”
The Handmaid’s Tale, the acclaimed dystopian drama that’s been a game-changer for Hulu in the U.S., continued to do well in Canada, ranking at No. 21 for the week.
Across the country, America’s Got Talent was tops in Vancouver, the Stanley Cup Finals scored in Calgary, Global News Hour ruled Edmonton, and World of Dance quickstepped around the competition in Montreal and the Greater Toronto Area.
