Police identify person of interest in recent quadruple homicide

-

Police are seeking a woman they want to question in the slayings of four people, including three whose bodies were found in a burning car in the city’s northwest. Calgary police say Yu Chieh Liao, 24, who also goes by Diana Liao, is an Asian female, five-foot-five and 160 pounds. She has long dark hair and brown eyes. A vehicle rented by Liao was seen in the area of the homicides, police confirmed. “The woman is believed to have played a significant role in the events that led to the deaths of two women and a man who were found dead ... as well as a man who was found dead in a ditch on the western edge of the city,” police said in a news release Thursday. Glynnis Fox, 36; Cody Pfeiffer, 25; and Tiffany Ear, 39, were found dead in a burnt-out vehicle on July 10. The body of Hanock Afowerk, 26, was found two days later near Highway 22 and Highway 8. Police have said the deaths are connected. “We were able to drill down that she has or had a relationship with Mr. Afowerk,” Acting Insp. Paul Wozney of the Calgary Police Service said Thursday, adding that the two weren’t romantically linked but were known to each other. She was last seen on CCTV footage in Moose Jaw accompanied by an unknown black male. Police have determined that same male was at the scene of the fire. Wozney described Liao as “nomadic” with ties across Canada, including Calgary, Vancouver, Moose Jaw, Regina and Toronto. “She is known to use rental vehicles and stay in hotels,” police said. Investigators believe Fox, Ear and Pfeiffer were caught up in a targeted attack against Afowerk. Police believe multiple people may be involved and continue to search for additional crime scenes.
