A warm day on the midway
There’s lots to see and do at K-Days, from the entertainment inside, the shopping, the food and all the action on the midway.
The midway grounds were packed again Thursday, Day 7 of the exhibition. With temperatures reaching 30 C, we asked some visitors how they were spending their day.
AVA CHAMSEDDINE, 21
Her third time at K-Days this year, Chamseddine was by the kids’ rides with her little sister, who just finished riding the Jeeps and was running over to the motorcycles.
“I’m pretty much helping my little sister; she’s not tall enough,” Chamseddine said, noting she will be coming again on the day the event closes, Sunday, to go on the bigger rides. “It’s the best time of the year for all of us.”
SOPHIE CARDER, 7, AND LIAM CARDER, 4
The Carder siblings were easy to spot for the many prizes they carried, most notably a big blue bear about the same size as them.
Sophie won the bear at the Birthday game, putting her money on New Year’s. Liam won a giant minion at a basket-tossing game.
“I like that he’s a pirate,” he said of his new friend.
Thursday was the second time this week for the family, their mother, Roberta Carder, said.
SUKHRAJ PANESAR, 19
The Sling Shot attraction catapults riders about 91 metres in the air at a top speed of about 100 km/h.
Panesar just finished the ride with his friend, Jatt Rai.
“It actually wasn’t bad,” he said. “After the first jolt, it’s fine, not that much of a shock.”
Panesar said Rai wanted to try it and made him do it.
TIM HAMAGUCHI
With the hot weather, the Niagara Falls ride was a popular attraction for those hoping to stay cool. It was closed for a few hours Thursday for maintenance, but was met with long lines as soon as it reopened.
After Hamaguchi and his two young daughters saw it was closed, they went to cool off inside at the dog show.
Morgan, 8, said her favourite part of the show was when the dogs were diving into a water tank and swimming.
They planned to spend the day going on a few more rides, checking out the shopping inside and enjoying some soft pretzels.
FEATURE DAYS
Friday is Pride Day at K-Days in partnership with the Edmonton Pride Festival Society, and those who wear K-Days Pride socks to the grounds will receive free admission. The socks are $10 and sold inside the Edmonton Expo Centre. They will also be on sale Friday outside the gate entrances. The net proceeds go toward LGBTQ programs in rural northern Alberta.
Also, those who attend the Edmonton Eskimos game Friday can present their ticket, or Eskimos Access Pass, and receive free entry to K-Days on Saturday.
