Janet Wright Gaye, the 32-yearold survivor of a crash that killed three Edmonton mothers near Lloydminster, is expected to be released from hospital by next week, said her husband.

“She’s still in the hospital actually, but she’s doing good,” said Matthew Gaye.

Nurses told the family that Janet Wright Gaye may be released this weekend or early next week.

The three women who died in the Sept. 22 crash — Eva Tumbay, 37, Jeannette Wright, 53, and Glorious David, 35 — were members of Edmonton’s Liberian Community and three of the four attended Solid Rock International Ministries. The women were travelling to Minnesota to visit family when the driver of a stolen heavy-duty truck hit the minivan they were travelling in on Highway 16 at 3 a.m.

RCMP had been pursuing the truck believed to have been stolen, but the chase was called off.

Saskatchewan RCMP later charged Brandon Stucka, 26, of Lloydminster with criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of breach of undertaking.

Matthew Gaye said charges being laid will not bring back the three lives lost.

“I’m grateful that Janet is alive and I’m grateful that we will be able to put the other family members to rest,” he said. “We can’t do anything more than that.”
