Expected growth of community has been planned for in advance
Even with an expected 10 years of community growth forecast — The Orchards will ultimately grow to include some 6,600 homes from the present estimate of 1,030 — the club house has been built with those future residents in mind. In fact, the whole community has been planned for in advance.
“The Orchards community itself — the original concepts and planning — would have started in 2009 and 2010, and we originally opened The Orchards in 2011,” said Westren of this master-planned community, adding that designing a community from start to finish points it in the right direction from the first day.
“From our perspective, the community has exceeded our expectations. We’re seeing people wanting to buy their second home in the community. People have either outgrown their home or want a smaller home, and they want to stay in The Orchards.”
Located minutes from Anthony Henday Drive and Highway 2, and about 15 minutes from the Edmonton International Airport, builders in The Orchards include Brookfield Residential, Daytona Homes, Homes by Avi, Jayman Built, Jayman Modus and Sterling Homes. Single-family homes, duplexes and townhouses are among the available choices.
Amenities in The Orchards include the newly opened Jan Reimer public school, while shopping and dining options are located nearby at Ellerslie Crossing and South Edmonton Common.
Going forward, Westren said the plan is “for The Orchards to provide a wide choice as possible to meet the needs of everyone from first-time buyers to people looking to buy their forever home.”
