Hypocrisy abounds in pipeline policy

-

The federal Liberals’ arrogance and hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Since they have been in power, they have put in place, through the NEB, a regulatory and approval process based on politics and ideology instead of economics, common sense and national unity, that was almost certain to bring about the decision by TransCanada.

Prime Minister Trudeau, and Ministers Carr and Sohi, were quick to point out that the decision was nothing to do with government. Hypocrisy anyone?

They claim to be concerned about the oilsands’ effect on their dubious climate-change ideology despite denying Alberta’s oil-extracting business is probably the cleanest in world. Yet they allow Quebec to import 634,000 barrels of oil daily from such countries as Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and the U.S., all greater polluters than Canada.

Does this imported oil have to pass the stringent tests of the NEB?

Of course not. Hypocrisy anyone?

They are more concerned about their federal seats and environmental opposition in Quebec than developing one of Canada’s most crucial products — despite the city of Montreal dumping eight billion litres of raw sewage into the St. Lawrence River. Hypocrisy anyone?

Minister Sohi, as an Albertan and MP for Mill Woods, should be particularly ashamed of his support for this political decision. Graham Morris, Edmonton
