City musician’s bandmates remember him as talented, intelligent

-

A popular Edmonton musician with the band North of Here is being remembered by his bandmates as ambitious, intelligent, talented and “pushing our limits constantly.”

“We know that you feel the same sting as we do having lost our pal,” Luke Jansen’s bandmates, Ian St. Arnaud and Will Holowaychuk, wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. “We miss our friend. He was ambitious, he was intelligent, he was talented, pushing our limits constantly, and of course he was hugely loved.”

Jansen, 22, was struck and killed by an LRT train around noon Friday near the Parkallen neighbourhood at 115A Street and 60 Avenue. The city police major collision investigation section said the death was accidental.

At the time of the investigation, police Sgt. Rick Evans said that after stopping for the eastbound train to pass, Jansen, who was wearing earbuds, “didn’t hear the westbound LRT when walking in the crossing and walked into its path.”

“This is a very unfortunate accident and very tragic for his family,” Evans said.

Jansen’s family plans to hold a celebration of his life at 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at a location that has yet to be finalized.
