Stop trash pickup in back laneways

-

I live in a cul-de-sac in Mill Woods with a back lane. Each week, we place our trash out back, and the heavy trucks pick it up, doing untold damage to the lane.

Across from our house in the same cul-de-sac, the homes have no back lane. The people bring their trash to the front for pickup by the same trucks that go down our lane. The street, engineered to withstand the heavy traffic, is no worse for wear.

Two years ago, our backlane potholes were filled and already it’s as if nothing was ever done. Logic would suggest the city could reduce wear and tear on the back lanes, reduce stress on finances, and save on our taxes if all trash were picked up at the front street. There would be no need for those heavy trucks to drive past our house twice (front and back). It would shorten the route, save labour hours, and fuel costs.

It will save us money and slow the degradation of our back lanes until they can be properly repaired. Milton (Mick) Rempel, Edmonton
