Private health care harms rural areas
Over the past 17 years, I’ve known two retired doctors who worked under a privatized health care system in the U.K. They both agreed that it will never work in Alberta.
We don’t have nearly enough doctors and nurses to make it work. Second, our populations aren’t concentrated like they are in Europe.
Their main concern was the fact that it will kill rural health care services very quickly.
There is no way you will be able to keep doctors and nurses working in rural Alberta if they can make twice as much money working in the private for-profit facilities in the cities that this will create.
It’s a no-brainer and could cost many rural Albertans their lives. Alan K. Spiller, Edmonton
