TRUMP’S VISIT TO BRITAIN IN JANUARY A ‘WORKING’ TRIP
WASHINGTON Donald Trump is expected to visit Britain in January in a “working” trip that would not see him meet the Queen or stay at Buckingham Palace.
A senior U.S. diplomatic figure has told The Daily Telegraph that the president may visit in order to officially open America’s new London embassy. Such a trip would avoid the controversy surrounding the proposed state visit offered by Theresa May just days after Trump’s inauguration.
More than 200 MPs have signed a motion opposing a Trump address to the Houses of Parliament and mass protests were also threatened.
However, British and U.S. officials Wednesday night insisted that a full state visit would still go ahead, with a trip expected by the end of 2018.
