A woman is dead and two men are clinging to life in hospital after a two-vehicle collision in northeast Edmonton on Saturday morning.

Edmonton police responded to the crash at 17th Street N.E. and Manning Drive at around 6:15 a.m.

A Plymouth Acclaim was driving northbound on Manning Drive when it hit a Chrysler Intrepid travelling westbound on 17th Street N.E., according to a news release. The investigation found the Chrysler failed to stop at a marked stop sign and was hit by the Plymouth.

The 46-year-old man driving the Plymouth has non-life-threatening injuries.

EMS took the 24-year-old driver and 19-year-old front passenger of the Chrysler to hospital with lifethreatening injuries. A 20-year-old woman who was sitting in the back of the car was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Chrysler following an investigation by the Edmonton Police Service’s major collision investigation unit, the news release said.

Southbound traffic on Manning Drive at 33rd Street was closed for several hours. Northbound traffic on Manning Drive was also closed at Meridian Street, but reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
