Homes by Avi

- GreG DonneLLy

Buying a home is exciting, stressful, exhilarating, and worrisome all rolled into one. It’s the biggest purchase of your life so having experienced, knowledgeable people in your corner can make all the difference.

That’s why readers have selected Homes by Avi as the Gold winner in the home builder category. The Alberta company is focused on supporting the customer through every stage of the buying process and beyond.

“We are beyond ecstatic,” says Sales Manager Micah V. Dueck. “This award is a huge point of pride for us. I think the fulfillment we enjoy as employees of Homes by Avi is absolutely born from the attention we are putting in to the client’s experience.”

Avi Amir started Homes by Avi in 1978, and now, as the company heads into its 40th year, it maintains its focus on customer care. That includes setting high standards when it comes to the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each home. “Standards aren’t what you want, they are what you accept, and we don’t accept anything less of ourselves,” says Dueck. “These homes are standing advertisements for Avi Amir and we owe it to the organization to ensure these are effective advertisements.”

Part of what makes those standards so exacting is the monthly meetings with the tradespeople and suppliers that help build the Homes by Avi designs. “We sit down with them once a month and we talk about opportunities for improvement,” says Dueck.

“We want to be as efficient as we can be in the field. Year after year we’re improving not only our own efficiencies but we’re doing that in partnership with every other trade and supplier that supports us so we’re all growing in tandem and bringing a better product to the market.”

The product is stellar, which is evident by being named Builder of the Year by the Canadian Home Building Association four consecutive years. What also sets Homes by Avi apart from its competitors are the people who work there. There is a lively culture around the office. “There are a lot of smiles, a lot of laughter,” says Dueck. “When we’re having fun it’s hard to take us out of that zone so in turn our clients are having fun.”

That fun translates to confidence and pride in what they do. Starting at the top, Avi is very personable and willing to help his workers when they need support. That filters down to the frontline workers too. “If you’re dealing with someone who is confident and proud to be doing what they’re doing, naturally you’re going to feel confident as a buyer,” says Dueck.

One of the keys in all Homes by Avi’s designs is liveability. The company is very selective in choosing the communities where it will build. It collaborates with local developers to help build new communities so they can be successful and the clients will enjoy the entire experience of owning a home.

This focus on liveability led Homes by Avi to become an industry leader in environmentally friendly building long before that became popular. “It started as a conversation about heating costs. How can we make this a more liveable home,” says Dueck. “These ideas came from asking how we can better the client’s experience.”

All of these things have combined over the years to make Homes by Avi a perennial award-winner and a favourite for homebuyers.

“This type of recognition is awesome motivation to continue to improve,” says Dueck. “We want to be worth the accolade so we need to be better than we were yesterday so we have the opportunity to be considered for these awards.”
