Hinton RCMP are on the hunt for two suspects who used a tow rope and a truck to rip an ATM from a business.

Police said around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 11, two suspects with their faces covered smashed a window at a business on Athabasca Avenue and attempted to remove an ATM using a tow rope attached to a truck. The suspects then loaded the ATM into the back of a waiting Ford Super Duty truck.

The RCMP are asking the public for help identifying the suspects, and anyone with information is urged to contact Hinton RCMP.

Later that evening, two suspects used a dark-coloured Ford F150 to steal an ATM machine from the Best Canadian Motor Inns at 385 Gregoire Dr. in Fort McMurray.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said a pickup reversed into the business’s entrance around 10:50 p.m., ramming the doorway several times before two suspects loaded an ATM machine into the truck and fled.

One suspect was described as thin, about six feet tall and weighing about 170 pounds, wearing a red plaid jacket, a grey hooded sweater, a black balaclava and blue jeans.

The second suspect was wearing dark pants and a black balaclava, tan gloves, an orange or red longsleeved shirt, a black vest and black sneakers with white soles.

Cpl. Chris Warren said Monday the ATM thefts are not being investigated as connected at this time.
