TEN NEW IDEAS ON INFILL

Edmonton released a list of 30 possible next steps for better infill at a launch party Wednesday night. City officials will be hosting workshops to gather public reaction through February. More details are available at cityofedmontoninfill.ca. Here are 10 of the ideas coming from the community members, developers and other participants:

Explore opportunities to

■ allow more than two homes on a lot through garden suites, tiny homes, smallscale apartments or rooming homes.

Propose tax strategies to

■ encourage infill development.

Help the industry assemble ■ land for larger infill projects.

Create a performance

■ recognition program for infill builders.

Proactively re-zone land

■ where the city wants medium density.

Educate residents on how

■ they can get involved in the planning process.

Study how use public investment

■ to most effectively encourage densification.

Encourage accessible

■ lane-way suites for seniors.

Use pilot projects to try

■ new infill forms like courtyard housing.

Simplify rules for lowdensity

■ infill in redeveloping areas.
