Oil Kings blanked 6-0 in Medicine Hat

-

The Edmonton Oil Kings fell 6-0 to the Central Division-leading Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday.

It was the eighth loss in 10 games for the Oil Kings, who showed signs of life on their slate of six away games with a 5-2 win over the Kootenay Ice before taking a 2-0 lead against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, only to surrender a hattrick to Jordy Bellerive in the final five minutes of a 3-2 loss Saturday.

While the Oil Kings played the Tigers close in their two meetings in Edmonton, both 4-3 overtime wins by Medicine Hat, neither trip south has been close, having lost by a combined 11-1 at Canalta Centre this season.

The Tigers pounced to a 4-0 lead on opening-period goals by Tyler Preziuso, David Quenneville, Ryan Chyzowski and a Mark Rassel short-hander, before coasting through the second period. Gary Haden added to their lead in the third before Josh Williams finished things off with three seconds remaining.

Josh Dechaine stopped 33 of 39 shots by Medicine Hat, while Michael Bullion was a perfect 31 for 31 in the win.

Oil Kings scoring leader Trey FixWolansky saw his point streak end after picking up four goals and five points in his previous three games. The right-winger leads Edmonton with 61 points and 39 assists.

The Oil Kings wrap up their sixgame road trip Friday against the Red Deer Rebels (7 p.m.). Oil Kings centre Kick Bowman will be playing in his 99th WHL game. The native of Sherwood Park has five goals and eight points.
