Reverse racism doesn’t work either

-

Gerald Stanley’s not-guilty verdict by an all-white jury may become Canada’s Trayvon Martin racist rant.

The public was fed all the negative aspects of Martin’s murder.

Similarly, we have been fed negative aspects of Gerald Stanley’s accidental killing of Colten Boushie.

All too often the media feeds us the emotional outcomes.

Of course, we are very sorry a young life was wasted.

But the “whys” override all reason.

Why was this group of young people in Stanley’s farmyard with a flat tire when they had already been in a neighbouring yard?

Why did one of the persons in the SUV jump on Stanley’s quad?

Did these young people have a phone? If so, why didn’t they use it to call for help?

Why did Stanley feel threatened enough to grab his handgun?

The worst fear of anyone living in rural areas is a home invasion.

If an SUV full of young people drives into a yard and one jumps out to get on a quad, that is not someone asking for help.

Farm homes are far apart and often quite a distance from local RCMP.

Yes, the system needs to be “fixed” but so do attitudes on both sides.

Racism does not work; neither does reverse racism. Nancy Mereska, Two Hills
