Trudeau cares little for Trans Mountain

Re. “Ottawa failing country on resource leadership,” Opinion, Feb. 24

I agree with Ken Kolby’s article regarding the weak and tacit support for the Kinder Morgan pipeline by Prime Minister Trudeau and his cabinet. Their combined attitude speaks volumes on how little they care to get this pipeline built.

Premier Notley has shown the greatest strength and fortitude in pushing for this pipeline. What is most upsetting is Canada has lost $147 billion in the last seven years by having to sell its oil at discounted prices to the U.S. This is why building the Kinder Morgan line is so important to the Canadian economy, so why can’t Trudeau get that?

The other information in Kobly’s column was 30 First Nation governments are trying to build a new pipeline from Alberta to the West Coast. They cannot proceed because Trudeau has imposed a moratorium on oil tanker traffic. This affects Northern Gateway, Energy East, LNG plants in B.C. We can draw from this that it isn’t the Indigenous nations protesting building pipelines to ocean ports.

These nations understand pipelines are the safest way to transport oil and, as such, they want as little environmental disruption as possible; to improve Canada’s economy; to create jobs; and to make life better for all Canadians.
