OUT FOR REVENGE

The Oilers are looking to even the score with Carolina after losing at home to the Hurricanes in the first month of the season. It was a wild one, with Edmonton outshooting the Hurricanes 51-21 in a 5-3 loss. Laurent Brossoit took the loss in goal for Edmonton.

ON THE LIMP

The Oilers defence is short-staffed. With Kris Russell missing the last two games with an injured hand, Oscar Klefbom back in Edmonton for shoulder surgery and Andrej Sekera leaving the last game after being hit on the foot with a puck, they’re a little iffy right now.

HELP FROM THE FARM

The potential shortage on defence prompted the emergency recall of Bakersfield Condors defenceman Dillon Simpson, 25. He leads all Condors defencemen with four goals and 13 assists in 56 games this year. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder, has appeared in 237 career AHL games and three NHL contests.

Leon Draisaitl’s hands seem to have dried up lately. He played 24 minutes in Tampa, including a team leading 7:42 on the power play, but didn’t register a point. He’s put up just one point in his last four games and two points in his last six outings.

The Hurricanes are wobbling, having lost five of their last seven. But they did just beat the New York Islanders 4-3 to snap a three-game losing skid.

MATCHUP TO WATCH

Teuvo Teravainen vs. Adam Larsson

Teravainen leads the Hurricanes with 58 points this season, 20 of which have come with the man advantage. He does much of his work on the power play, so the Oilers, who are hot and cold when it comes to their penalty killing, will have to be very aware of him when they’re shorthanded. He burned them for two goals the last time these teams met. Larsson is one of the main dogs on the PK and he’ll need to be at his tenacious best to keep Teravainen from padding his stats at Edmonton’s expense.
