What’s in and what’s out on spending list

Alberta is scaling back the number of new constructi­on projects on its to-do list in the coming year.

Budget 2018 includes $600-million worth of new projects, compared to $1.4 billion in new capital spending announced last year.

Previously announced items such as planning for Edmonton’s new south hospital and a new hightech super lab have stayed on the books. Here are a few other projects noted in the budget:

FUNDED

Winspear Centre expansion

District energy upgrades at the

University of Alberta Telus World of Science expansion

Upgrades to Calgary and Edmonton ring roads

Safety and other upgrades at the

Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

Edmonton’s west LRT expansion

is in the budget for future years. Funding for Edmonton’s 50 Street upgrades is promised in 2022-23.

Land for future Edmonton law courts expansion

Alberta Parks expansion program

Ray Gibbon Drive upgrades

Catholic K-9 school in Keswick/

Windermere

Yellowhead Youth Centre redevelopm­ent

Ambrose Place, which provides housing for the homeless, has planning dollars for Phase 2 but no money earmarked for constructi­on
