Meet the Challengers pt. 4

- This is the final entry in a series following the 12-week YMCA Community Health Challenge in print and online in the Edmonton Journal.

Each challenger has their own goals and reasons for wanting to improve their overall health.

You can read about how far all of the YMCA Community Health Challenge participants have come at northernalberta.ymca.ca/challenge

TESSA TSCHIDA-JONES, TEACHER

Being a teacher means I am super busy and don’t have a lot of time or extra cash. This makes it hard to stay active. But I’m at a point where my day doesn’t feel right unless I get in some activity, and finding things I can do at home allows me to make time for an activity everyday.

MARK HILL, ACCOUNTANT

I notice a big difference in my energy levels. My body hurts pretty well all the time, but I still feel better and have more energy. I have dropped nearly 15 pounds from the start of the challenge.

CHRISTOPHER PETRIE, ESTIMATOR

The Health Challenge has allowed me to shift focus, for the benefit of myself when I am not in the office, so I can have a healthier and more enjoyable life. I have upped my lifting capacity and I can feel the positive effects. It’s nice feeling stronger and firmer without flexing. It has been a while since that was the case.

GLENN GRANT, LOGISTICS MANAGER

My wife, Willy, signed us up for the YMCA Health Challenge so we could do this together and support each other. I find that I’m going to the gym more now than when I first started the Challenge. Down 32 pounds and feeling much better.
