It’s up to adults to provide balance

-

Re. “Students should get full picture on climate change,” David Staples, April 13

I have to applaud David Staples on his sensible commentary on climate change and how balanced and healthy we want our children to be.

Both the school board and the Trickster Theatre have to realize that, as important as it is to encourage kids to be creative, it’s equally important their creativity is not hindered by limiting their perspective to one side of the picture.

I can’t accept the excuse of the two mature parties responsible for the skits that “it was the kids’ initiative” to show a biased approach to the climate-change issue.

Either the adult parties learn more about climate change to enable a broader perspective of the issue or invite somebody else who can to do it, for a critical and necessary balance.

I’m not asking for censorship of creative work. What I’m asking for is that a formative message includes the pros and cons of human activities, recognizing that most should be geared to feed over seven billion people, to eliminate misery, and improve our quality of life on a sustainable basis.

All human activities come with a cost; it’s up to us to minimize it or, preferably, prevent it.
