-

Police have arrested a man wanted for the killing of a 61-year-old who died in hospital after being attacked when he tried to stop a robbery at Southgate Centre last week.

Jordan Martin Cushnie, 23, was arrested by Lac La Biche RCMP on Sunday evening after a tip from the public around 4:30 p.m. that he was in a home in the Deer Meadows neighbourhood. He was wanted for second-degree murder, robbery, mischief under $5,000 and possession of break-and-enter tools.

Cushnie was taken to Edmonton and remains in police custody.

He is also facing multiple charges in relation to the Lac La Biche arrest, which had not been sworn by Monday afternoon.

“We would like to thank the public, as this tip ultimately led to a quick arrest,” RCMP spokesman Cpl. Ronald Bumbry said in a Monday news release.

Homicide detectives in Edmonton continue to investigate the mall attack.

Iain Armstrong, who worked at the shopping centre for 26 years, was badly beaten after he tried to stop a thief at a nearby kiosk around 10 a.m. last Tuesday. He died at University Hospital on Friday.

Armstrong was a co-founder in 1991 of Bunches Flower Co., according to the Edmonton company’s website.
