Bubble-zone bill isn’t necessary
As lawyer for Alberta ProLife in 2002, I negotiated with the Edmonton Morgentaler clinic’s counsel a consent order establishing a bubble zone around that abortuary.
The court order, a matter of public record, balanced citizens’ constitutionally entrenched rights to free speech, expression, religion, association, peaceful assembly and protest with abortionists’ interests in ensuring clientele and staff unimpeded access to their business premises.
Given the abortion industry’s evident ability to obtain this sort of injunctive relief, the NDP’s bubble-zone bill is arguably a waste of valuable legislative time, and perhaps why Jason Kenney’s official opposition respectfully declines to participate. Mark McCourt, Edmonton
