SEEKING AN EDGE WITH ELEGANCE

New home offers attractive views and an abundance of natural light

- RYAN GARNER

Blending modern stylistic elements with custom design touches and cutting-edge technology, the latest offering from Urban Edge Homes is designed with the customer in mind.

Located in the Ambleside in Windermere neighbourhood in southwest Edmonton, the threebedroom, three-bathroom luxury walkout encompasses 2,592 square feet of living space and backs onto a pond, offering attractive views in a natural setting.

“We wanted to go with a clean, sophisticated look,” said Vick Mander, managing partner at Urban Edge Homes. “There are a lot of beautiful homes in this area, and we wanted to add to it with something special of our own. We’re really proud of how it turned out.”

The front entry opens into an expansive great room, framed by a vaulted ceiling and large windows. A floor-to-ceiling limestone concrete fireplace anchors the space, while an overhead lighting feature adds a unique touch and a custom railing by Edmonton-based Forge North Services runs along the staircase leading up to the second floor.

The open-concept design blends the great room into the kitchen and dining area. An oversized Lshaped island provides a common gathering space. Quartz countertops are complemented by a white diagonal backsplash, and black cabinets get a touch of colour with attractive wood accents.

“There are walnut accents around the cupboards, because we wanted everything to tie in together and give the home a common theme,” said Mander, who noted that the wood accents extend to the bathroom cabinets as well. “And energy efficiency is very important. That’s why we designed the space to provide plenty of natural light and exposure with the large windows.”

A spacious pantry connects the kitchen to the mud room, adjacent to the garage, offering plenty of storage space for boots and coats. Down the hall, a threepiece bathroom on the main floor is finished with ceramic tile, and sits across from a large den with a glass door.

Convenient touches can be found throughout the home, including stainless steel appliances, a wine fridge incorporated into the kitchen island, and a built-in Sonos sound system that handles every audio need. Low-profile paddle switches by Legrand add to the sleek appearance, while highend fixtures boost the overall look and feel.

“We included the latest touches, including the switches and controls, so that everything is geared toward convenience and creating a luxury feel,” said Mander. “Consumers are interested in quality, and we’re looking to appeal to professionals who are being drawn to the new developments.”

Heading upstairs, a loft-style bonus room offers another area for relaxing or entertaining. Three bedrooms sit on the upper level. The two smaller bedrooms face the front of the home, with large windows offering a view of the development.

A spacious master bedroom is accented with pendant lighting and adjoins a five-piece ensuite, featuring a stand-alone tub and separate glass-enclosed shower with built-in body jets.

“You want to set a standard for building and live up to it in every project you do,” Mander said. “Even in this difficult economy, consumers know value and they want something that will fit their lifestyle. That’s important to us, and that’s what we try to provide with each project.”

Priced at around $740,000, the home is located close to amenities in the Windermere area, and provides easy access to Anthony Henday Drive. The home is available for viewing on Monday, April 30 from noon to 5 p.m., or Tuesday, May 1 to Thursday, May 3 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For information on availability or additional Urban Edge developments, visit www.urbanedgehomes.ca.
