Man charged in city’s 11th homicide of ’18
A man charged with second-degree murder after a woman was killed in what police described as a “domestic violence incident” made a brief appearance in Edmonton court on Wednesday.
Ahamdo Mbaye, 41, is charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public in connection to the death of Bigue Ndao, 33, who died Monday. The weapon identified in the charge is a knife, according to court records.
Mbaye appeared briefly in provincial court Wednesday via video conferencing from the Edmonton Remand Centre. The case was adjourned until May 16 because he is still attempting to get a lawyer, court heard.
Edmonton police did not issue a news release specifying the charges, although a release said Tuesday homicide detectives were treating the case of a 33-year-old woman who was found dead in a Strathearn residence as suspicious.
Police said they would not release the name of the victim because it did not serve an investigative purpose.
A Wednesday autopsy said the woman died of stab wounds. She is the city’s 11th homicide victim of the year.
Officers found the woman dead after responding to a weapons call at an apartment suite in the Strathearn Heights complex near 96 Avenue and 87 Street at about 3:40 p.m. Monday.
