Police forces team up on homicides

- RYAN RUMBOLT

Police in Edmonton and Calgary have teamed up in an effort to locate four people linked to three killings in 2016 with ties to organized crime.

Around 8 p.m. on Sept. 20, 2016, Cuc Lung and Quang Tran were gunned down while sitting in their vehicle after returning to their residence on Redstone Manor N.E. in Calgary. Tran died at the scene and Lung was taken to hospital, where she died of multiple gunshot wounds. Lung ’s five-year-old son was in the back seat , but the child was uninjured.

Then at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2016, emergency crews were called to a shooting in the area of 171 Avenue and 126 Street in the Edmonton community of Rapperswill where they found Phu Phan, 30, dead in the driveway of his residence as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

Calgary police have charged Calgarian Jimmy Truong, 26, with three counts of first-degree murder, but are asking for help identifying four men who may be connected to the murders. Police say the two shootings were targeted attacks carried out by an organized crime group but would not confirm if Truong was the triggerman in the homicides, nor his role in the gangs believed to have been involved.

Those with information are asked to call Edmonton police or text #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
