Police arrest man after eight-hour standoff
A 34-year-old man with a history of fleeing police is facing firearms charges after barricading himself inside a house Friday night.
On Sunday, Edmonton police charged Christopher Ryan Flamant with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, and two counts of careless storage of a firearm, in addition to breaching court-ordered conditions.
Officers went to a house at 106 Avenue and 106 Street at about 7:30 p.m. Friday to execute a search warrant, police spokeswoman Cheryl Voordenhout said Saturday. Four people inside the house refused to leave.
By 1 a.m. Saturday, three people had surrendered to police while officers were still negotiating with one man who stayed inside. At about 4 a.m. Saturday, police took the 34-year-old man into custody, Voordenhout said. No one was injured.
In July 2009, Flamant fled the University Hospital on crutches and with his jaw wired shut — injuries he sustained while involved in a police chase earlier that month.
On July 7, 2009, police were pursing a stolen Dodge Neon on River Valley Road when the driver of the Neon lost control, prompting a three-vehicle collision.
Police had planned to lay charges once Flamant was out of hospital. They arrested Flamant two days after he was reported missing.
Four years later, police issued a public notice asking for help finding Flamant. They said he was a federal parolee wanted on robbery and other charges.
